What to Know Before Attending Classes and Workshops at Magnolia Art Studios

Wondering what to expect when you join us for a class or workshop? Here’s a quick guide to help you feel prepared and ready to create!

Interested in a class or workshop? Right now, I’m offering private classes tailored to your interests and schedule.
I’d love to hear from you! Feel free to message me or give me a call—I’m happy to chat and help you plan your creative experience.

Here are a few things to think about:

• What day and time works best for you?
• What type of class are you excited about?
• How many people are in your group?

Thank you for your patience as I continue to grow the studio into a vibrant space with a regular schedule of classes and workshops. In the meantime, please share Magnolia Art Studios with your trusted friends! I can already imagine the studio buzzing with people sharing ideas, making connections, and creating beautiful things together. The best is yet to come, and I’m so grateful to have you as part of this journey!

What’s the Difference Between a Class and a Workshop?

*Classes* are all about learning a specific project, where I’ll teach you a technique and you’ll leave with a finished “make and take” piece. I’ll provide all the basic supplies, and if there’s anything you need to bring, I’ll include that in the materials list.

*Workshops*, on the other hand, are more of a creative free-for-all! We’ll still be learning, but the project is more personal to you. It’s less about “here’s what we’re making today” and more about exploring new techniques and thinking outside the box. You might want to bring your own supplies to add a personal touch to your creation.

Be Fearless—Creativity Has No Rules!

Leave your perfectionism at the door (yes, you can!). Art is about experimenting and trying new things, so be open to making a mess, trying new materials, and having fun. The skills you pick up here will find their way into your own art practice at home. Think of it as adding tools to your creative toolbox.

As a facilitator of creativity, my goal is to provide a supportive, nurturing space where we can all explore, share, and grow together.

What to Bring

The class or workshop description will give you specific details on what supplies you need, but here’s a list of essentials that will serve you well no matter what we’re making:

  • Adhesives, Glues, and Mediums
    • Ah, where to begin? For starters, bring a good glue stick, a gel glue like Fabri-Tac, and a jar of Mod Podge in your favorite finish (matte, satin, or glossy). As you advance, you’ll probably want to invest in a good acrylic medium too.
  • Paint Brushes
    • My go-to is the Princeton Select Artiste 1″ Flat Wash Brush, but if you’re just getting started, any flat 1″ brush will do. Bring a variety of brush sizes for acrylic paints too.
  • Scissors
    • You’ll need a good pair of all-purpose scissors and a smaller, sharp pair for “fussy cutting” (that’s detail cutting, FYI!). I recommend the Cutter Bee Precision Scissors.
  • Cutting Mat
    • Protect your workspace and make clean cuts with a sturdy cutting mat
  • A Glue book
    • Bring an old magazine or catalog to glue your papers on. Tear out the used pages as you go for a fresh surface to keep things tidy.
  • Helpful Extras:
    •  Ruler, pencils, and pens
    • Disposable gloves, a rag, and an apron
    • A small water squirt bottle (trust me, it’s handy!)

And, for a little extra fun, consider bringing your supplies in a cool container—a toolbox, a vintage suitcase, or whatever makes you smile.
